601 SAFETY POLICY

601.1 Purpose

The City of Lee's Summit is committed to providing a safe work environment.

601.2 Hazardous Conditions

Only in an emergency will an employee be required to work outside in extreme hazardous weather as defined by the National Weather Service. Emergencies shall be defined as circumstances presenting an immediate threat to health, welfare, and safety as determined by management.

No employee will be required to operate unsafe equipment or enter unsafe environments. Employees have the responsibility to report unsafe working conditions to management.

601.3 Safety Rules and Regulations

Safety rules shall be developed by the department and its employees; or by the City's Safety Committee outlined in Section 602. Each department shall establish a departmental safety committee to report to and coordinate with the City Employee Safety Committee. The divisional safety committees shall consist of employees representing the unit jointly with representatives from management.
