606 SEAT BELT AND SAFETY RETENTION SYSTEM POLICY

606.1 Purpose

Pursuant to the of the State of Missouri statute, RSMO 307.178, this policy will require employees that operate vehicles or equipment utilize the seat belts and/or the safety retention system provided by the manufacturers.

606.2 Seat Belt Required

All City employees, both drivers and passengers, while on official City business in a vehicle or individuals while operating City vehicles (engine on) to include cars, vans, trucks of all classes, and heavy equipment of all types, shall wear the provided seat belt, or the safety retention system provided by the manufacturer.

606.3 Exception

Exceptions to this policy may be permitted for public safety purposes as specified by a memorandum from the respective Fire Chief and Police Chief.

606.4 Defective Equipment

Employee shall report any defective seat belt or safety retention system to their immediate supervisor immediately so the vehicle or equipment may be repaired, or replaced. The supervisor shall remove the equipment from service until repairs are made.
