604 LIGHT DUTY

604.1 Purpose

Employees suffering temporary, short-term impairment as a result of a work related injury that impacts their ability to fully and adequately perform their regular duties may be assigned to light duty. Human Resources will coordinate with the appropriate Department Director.

604.2 Definition

Light duty is defined as those tasks which, in the sole determination of the Department Director meets the treating physician's physical restrictions. Light duty may entail a decrease in the number of hours worked.

604.3 Compensation

After the initial 90 days of workers compensation pay will be calculated based on the number of hours worked. Workers compensation pay is further defined in Section 211.

604.4 Availability

The Department Director may assign an employee to light duty if the employee is able to perform the light duty tasks and there is sufficient work available to justify the assignment.

All determinations under this policy shall be made at the sole discretion of the Department Director. If the Department Director is unable to honor a request for light duty, the employee is placed on temporary total disability (TTD) pursuant to worker's compensation statutes.
