City Works

Overview

Today managing infrastructure capital assets consists of minimizing the total cost of owning, operating, and maintaining assets at acceptable levels of service. CityWorks is the proven and genuine GIS-centric asset management solution, combined with the power of ArcGIS and its robust asset data management repository, to perform intelligent and cost-effective inspection, monitoring, and condition assessment. Considering the interdependencies of maintenance, operations, asset performance, environmental conditions, life cycle costs, and capital planning prevents the replacement of many perfectly good assets with useful remaining life, which can happens when using only age-based asset replacement recommendations.

Specifications/Contract Documents

CityWorks provides a mechanism for detailed maintenance planning. By incorporating GIS visualization, the user can easily group assets by location, type, age, or other key parameters. These groupings can then be used to create maintenance activities such as tests or inspections. CityWorks has the ability to schedule preventative maintenance work orders and have them automatically generate subsequent work orders as each is completed or per a firm cycle.

Submittals

Maintenance management involves two fundamental practices – reactive and scheduled maintenance. Reactive maintenance occurs when someone interacts with or recognizes a problem with an asset or with an infrastructure system. For example, a citizen may call the local government agency to report a pothole or damaged street sign. The work done to inspect and resolve the issue is known as reactive maintenance. Most reactive issues begin with a Service Request.

Field Observations

Office and Field workers comprise the core end users of the CityWorks system. Spanning the range of staff that log and dispatch service requests, office supervisors that manage crews and field workers in their day-to-day work activities, to the actual field staff performing the work out in the field, CityWorks supports a wide variety of easy to use tools to help facilitate data entry and work completion.

Documentation

In the traditional management world, managers and directors are fed a constant stream of reports and updates. While this often provides management staff with a viable set of data from which decisions can be made, it also comes at a high price. Staff time and resources required to help make informed decisions can easily eat away at the very cost savings. CityWorks provides an alternative to expensive staff reporting processes and a time consuming information lag that helps managers understand issues with real-time technology.
